Al-Ta’rif bi Awham man Qassama ‘l-Sunan ila Sahih wa Da’if by Mahmud Sa’id Mamduh

A well-known rebuttal of Shaykh Nasir al-Din al-Albani’s critique of the four Sunan works, this six-volume work is very useful for the hadith researcher.

The pdf of the book can be found at the following link:

  1. The author has strong Shiite inclinations. He is a student of the Ghumari shaykhs and is quite harsh in his tone. His works are to be taken with a large tablespoon of salt.

  2. The book was recently uploaded by Shia. There are number of refutations written of this book. The first one, i guess, was by Amr Abdul Mun’im. But that is not available online. Following are some of the refutations available online

  3. He’s not a shi’ah in the twelver sense, nor even in a zaydi sense. Rather he makes tafdil of sayyiduna ‘Ali over the shaykhayn [ridhwan Allah ‘alayhim ajma’in]. Yes, not all his views are correct, but nor are the salafi views espoused in the books linked to by ‘Muhammad Moin’.

    was-salam

  4. Assalamu’alaikum…
Well, tafdheel is not the only issue with him. There is a paper published in the famous refutation of fabricated juz of Musannaf Abdur Razzaq, by Ziyad at-Tukla. It is at the end of this refutation. According to it, several students, and they signed it, witnessed Mahmud Saeed’s speech in which he reviled even senior Sahaba, including mother Aisha (R.A.). Besides that, he often attack Ahle Sunnah for so called bias against shia and so called love for Nasibis. His books are quite evident in this regard. Anyways that is another thing irrelevant to this blog content. His books are useful to a good extant for a student of hadith, but as a critique of al-Albani then it is full of deceptions.
