A question was just posed in the comments about ‘Allamah Shabbir Ahmad al-‘Uthmani’s commentary on Sahih Muslim, Fath al-Mulhim, and whether a pdf of the book is available online.
To the best of our knowledge, there is no such pdf yet available. However, selected portions of the first volume of the Dar al-Qalam edition were recently scanned for students of an ‘Aqidah class and have been uploaded here. Some of the selections include discussions on the differences between iman and islam, whether iman increases or decreases, the Beatific vision, etc…

Jazaakallaahu Khayr, i’ve been looking through this kitaab, and i came across what i think must be a printing mistake on page 40, the part regarding a person having both eemaan and kufr in him at one time, in the first line of that part it says “wa shukrun wa tawheed” rather than “wa shirkun wa tawheed”.
Jazakallah. Can you please specify which volume?
There are many other such print errors in this beautiful publication. I am making a list of them as I read various chapters and passages from all six volumes.

Does anyone know if this book is available in urdu as well?
I don’t believe such material is even aimed at laymen. This is highly academic material suitable for those ulema who specialize in Hadith and Fiqh. Most Arabic works that have been translated into Urdu deal with morals and spirituality as laymen need them most. Allah knows best.
Well, there are a number of hadith commentaries that are available in Urdu, most of them being collections of lecture notes from hadith lessons conducted for advanced students of hadith.
Amongst these collections is a partial collection of ‘Allamah ‘Uthmani’s lecture notes for Sahih Bukhari entitled Fadl al-Bari.
Even more interesting to note is that this two volume commentary on Bukhari, which covers the Books of Faith and Revelation mainly, has also been translated into English. The translation is quite good although it is very difficult to find and, as far as I know, also out of print.

Mawlana Abul Hasan, Jazakallahu khayran for sharing this with us. It is indeed heartening to see so many of the Arabic works of our great Deobandi masters being published from the Arab world in such good standards now. I wonder if anyone has compared this 12-volume Dar Ihya’ al-Turath edition with the bulky but beautiful 6-volume edition of Dar al-Qalam. If so, please share your thoughts with us.

I was wondering the same thing. How does this Dar Ihya Turath edition compare with the Dar al Qalam edition?
Apprently the Dar Ihya ed is unauthorized, has an extra volume by the editor, and questionable footnotes throughout.
Any idea what’s in the additional volume?
I’m not sure myself, though I think I heard (or possibly read) this from Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, so he may know.

I have the English copy of Fadl al Bari. It was very difficult to find, but eventually I found a copy of it at the Yale University Library. It is translated by a Qadi Abdur Rahman and published by the Idarah Ulum-I-Shar’iyyah. I’ll try to scan and upload it later on.
Is anyone else missing pages 16-17 in the first volume of the Dar al-Qalam edition? Those two pages are completely blank for me. This is also the case with 20-21 and 24-25 and 28-29. Very annoying. I assume I have a defective copy, and hope my other volumes don’t have a similar problem.

Yes, you have a defective print, unfortunately. Try getting that volume changed by the bookshop or Dar al-Qalam itself.
Jazakum Allahu khayra, I contacted the bookstore (Fadak Books in Atlanta), and they don’t have any copies left, but they are instead sending me 20% of the value back (not that it was their fault in the first place; they sent it to me still sealed from the publisher). I will probably try to contact Dar al-Qalam, but if it doesn’t work out I’ll just ask someone to photograph these pages and I’ll write it in by hand.
