Ita’at-e-Rasul by Shaykh Maulana Yusuf Motala

As the title suggests, this post is regarding Hadhrat Shaykh Maulana Yusuf Motala’s (damat barakatuhum) work on the importance of Obedience to the Messenger sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, which he had authored some 40 years ago to establish the importance of Obedience to the Messenger sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam in the hearts and minds of the then economic migrants from the sub-continent, in whom he had witnessed a complex of compulsive imitation to their until recently colonial masters and an attitude of apathy towards the Noble Prophet’s sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam Sunnah.

The book seeks to impose upon the reader the urgency of taking the Noble Messenger sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam as the sole being worthy of emulation and drives this point home from various angles, which is also the special feature of this book. Although it was written 40 years ago, and therefore, will have passages that may appear to be irrelevant to the status quo, but the general dilemma it seeks to address is not only the same as then, rather has become more accentuated in some respects in recent times. Hence, the book is as – or even more – relevant today as it was when it was first written.

Historically, this was the first ever book to be authored by any of our akabir in these lands and for the people of these lands. Its publication process had also enjoyed the special attention and prayers of Hadhrat Shaykh Imam Muhammad Zakariyya [RA], who had also made special prayers for its acceptability (maqbuliyyat).

Hadhrat Shaykh’s wish was for it to be published here in the West and he had expressed this wish to the author in a few of his letters. Alhamdulillah, Azhar Academy has been very fortunate to recently publish a second edition of the work, which is now in stock and available from here: http://www.azharacademy.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2013

Attached is the book’s glossary and publisher’s forward.

  1. Jazakallahu Khairan for that link.

A new English translation of the work is currently being worked upon and will be published soon, Inshallah.
