Chapters on the Prophetic Visitation – Translation from I’la’ al-Sunan

This monumental work, authored by Allamah Zafar Ahmad al-Uthmani al-Thanawi (ra), is a Hadith-based compendium of detailed evidences from which the rulings of the Hanafi madhhab are derived.

Preceding this chapter, Allamah Zafar Ahmad al-Uthmani (ra) writes,

“From the wondrous fortunes is the drafting of the chapter of visitation and its completion a year and some months before the completion of the chapters of Hajj in the illuminated [city of] Madinah, at the house of my master, our intimate guardian [Mawlana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri], facing the fragrant Rawdah and the illuminated prophetic mosque; and the writing of the last pages of it in the presence of the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) facing him while standing in front him, fearful and apprehensive of his gaze, with trembling hands due to recalling his eminence and loftiness. And all praise belongs to Allah, first and last, and blessings and peace be upon the Noble Prophet and his two companions and all his companions and his household, continuously and perpetually.”

Sirat Ibn Hisham – Abridged English Translation

asSalaamu Alaikum,

Sirat ibn Hisham – Abridged English Translation

Abridgment done by Abdus-Salam M. Harun. He writes in the Introduction:

In this ‘abridgment’, l tried to extract elements from the original work to present it in a new form that is allowed for uninterrupted reading, while being careful about the original text so the reader could cite it. I did not replace a letter of the original text so as to be honest  in performance. I referred to Ibn Hisham’s  wordings in the beginning of the subject or in footnotes, but the whole text is of Ibn Ishaq as narrated by Ibn Hisham.

I mentioned the chain of authorities only when it was indispensable for the subject by quoting what had been reported by Ibn Ishaq or Ibn Hisham. To make the text coherent I interpreted what was needed of explanation,  relying on accredited Sirah commentaries and  linguistic references.

Abridgement is a kind of facilitation for those who are unable to read the original and it serves to link today’s youth to their heritage. Allah willing, you would be able to read this book in a few days and acquire an immediate benefit, while reading the original, if possible, would take a few months.

“The 15th of Sha`ban in the Light of Qur’an & Hadith” – by Shaykh Fazl-ur-Rahman al-Azami (db)

asSalaamu Alaikum,

“The 15th of Sha`ban in the Light of Qur’an & Sunnah” – by Shaykh Fazl-ur-Rahman al-Azami (db)

This small booklet, by al-Muhaddith Shaykh Fazl-ur-Rahman al-Azami (db), sheds light upon the 15th night of Sha`ban known as Laylat al-Bara’a (or Shab-e-Baraat as is known in Urdu). The Shaykh, may Allah (SWT) accept his efforts and lengthen his life, is presently one of the leading Hadith scholars. He is known to be the successor of the great researcher and scholar, al-Muhaddith al-Kabeer Shaykh Habeeb-ur-Rahman al-Azami (ra).

Many misconceptions, confusions, and baseless traditions circulate regarding Laylat al-Bara’a. Therefore, as is the case with great Ulama, Shaykh Fazl-ur-Rahman al-Azami (db) felt the pressing need to produce a well-researched treatise, in the form of this short and concise booklet, clarifying the issues regarding this night in the light of Qur’an and Sunnah.

The Shaykh concludes, in conformity with the research of other great scholars, that verily the 15th night of Sha`ban is a blessed night during which the special mercies and blessings of Allah (SWT) descend and countless individuals are emancipated from Jahnannum due to forgiveness from Allah (SWT). The Shaykh, however, adds that fasting on the 15th of Sha`ban is not from the Sunnah fasts and can only be regarded as a Nafl. He further refutes the baseless customs & traditions that have been falsely associated with this blessed night.
