I am looking for a scanned version of the book مختصر التبيان في آداب حملة القرآن by الإمام النووي on the internet. So far Ive found this only in the a typed document format, which makes reading and enjoying the text very difficult.
It would be very generous to suggest a link or a website where I can find scanned books authored by the traditional scholars
Jazakum Allah
Posted by Mth | June 23, 2009, 5:30 pmI am unaware of any scanned version of the Mukhtasar. If I do come across one, I will let you know, iA.

Posted by at-Tahawi | June 23, 2009, 8:28 pmAssalam-0-Alikum,
This blog is contributing a lot in reviving the true picture of Fiqh al Islami..secondly i hope that besides sharing useful Islamic literature you people should also contribute some writings of Sunni Scholars like Ibn Adam, Faraz Rabbani and other UK based scholars that are working to remove misunderstandings and trying to abolish hate from among the sunni sects…
May Allah always be with you.

Asalaamu’alaikum,
I have posted Hazrat Mufti Taqi ‘Uthmani’s (db) sanad for Bukhari that he received from his father Hazrat Mufti Shafi’ ‘Uthmani (ra) on an image hosting site which I have linked below. As for the sanad of Hazrat Mufti Rafi’ ‘Uthmani, the sanad that he received from his father would be the same.

I have bben asked to look for an English translation of Fathul Babi wal Hidayat. My community wants to buy 200+ copies for teaching purposes, if it is possible. I was wondering if you know of such a translation. If you know that there isn’t one yet, we are also willing to commission one. We can provide editing and printing in one of our own companies. We would be grateful if you could give us as much information as you have available to you about this. Thank you.
Posted by Hatice | March 12, 2011, 8:21 amasSalaam-alaykum admin,
alhamdulillah.may Allah bless you all for a much needed islamic book review site.
we have books used as primers for oriental studies at mainstream universities.it would be nice for such books to be reviewed by our ulema.perhaps an addition to the english book section.
some books used at the islamic world faculty at oxford are listed below;
•Albert Hourani, A history of the Arab peoples (Faber)
•Malise Ruthven, Islam in the world (Pelican)
•Ignaz Goldziher, Introduction to Islamic theology and law (Princeton University Press paperback)
•Michael Cook, Muhammad (Oxford University Press, Past Masters paperback)
•Hugh Kennedy, The Prophet and the age of the caliphates (Longman)
•Roger Owen, State, power and politics in the making of the modern Middle East (Routledge)
•H.A.R. Gibb, Arabic literature (Oxford University Press paperback)
•M.M. Badawi, A critical introduction to modern Arabic poetry (Cambridge University Press paperback)
•Margo Badran and Miriam Cooke (eds.),Opening the gates: a century of Arab feminist writing (Virago paperback)
•Xavier de Planhol, The world of Islam (Cornell University Press paperback)
•Dale Eickelman, The Middle East: an anthropological approach (2nd ed., Prentice-Hall paperback)
•Richard Ettinghausen and Oleg Grabar, The art and architecture of Islam (Pelican History of Art).
•T.F. Mitchell, Writing Arabic (Oxford University Press paperback) [for learning the script].
these are used for undergraduates before they enrol at the university.
it may develop into an interesting section insha-Allah.

Posted by m abdAllah | April 5, 2011, 1:04 pmThis is a very interesting and worthwhile proposal. I have a list of books that are suggested for reading at the University of Chicago.
To create a list of relevant reviews, it would be necessary to first read through them or employ the services of scholars who have.
Perhaps an immediate solution would be to provide links to reviews of these books from peer-reviewed journals.
I am sure that many of the books on these lists have such reviews.

I am not Arab I’d like to study Arabic language where do I start I found your blog has alot of resources for it but from where does a beginner start like me?
Please advise
Posted by Radwaan | April 25, 2011, 6:39 pmTo brother Radwaan,
I wouldn’t recommend starting Arabic learning through websites such as this which seek to simply provide resources. I would look for sites that are dedicated to teaching Arabic.
They would have teachers who could look at your situation and recommend accordingly.
Posted by at-Tahawi | May 2, 2011, 7:42 pmWith all due respect, this current theme looks a bit messy and unprofessional; the previous layout was far better.
Posted by Ali | May 2, 2011, 6:41 pmReally? Kullu jadidin ladhidh!
Posted by at-Tahawi | May 2, 2011, 7:40 pmI like this new layout.
I also feel a good addition to this site would be a sort of request section, because as you’ve already seen there are many people who are always looking for some kitaab or the other, and so they could post on that page instead of posting this ‘about’ page full of comments, but the decision is up to you.
Posted by Abu Mus'ab | June 2, 2011, 6:57 pmI am looking for two kitaabs which mufti abdur raheem limbada mentioned in a video of his titled “dua after farz namaz”, the two kitaabs are:
1: استحباب الدعاء بعد الفرائض ورفع اليدين فيه by ‘Abdul Hafeedh malik ‘abdul haqq al makki.
2: ثلاث رسائل في استحباب الدعاء ورفع اليدين فيه بعد الصلوات المكتوبة
Are the two available online?
Posted by Abu Mus'ab | June 2, 2011, 7:02 pmAssalamualaikum:
Hazrat, I do not know if this is the correct way of asking a question on this website but I could not find any other way to reach at-Tahawi/ilmgate so I am posting my query here only. I hope it will be entertained.
I want to know what is the position of our Ulama (Hanafi, Deobandi) regarding the Perennialist school of thought initiated by Rene Guenon and Coomaraswany and further expanded by people like Martin Lings, Frithjof Schuon, Seyyed Hussein Nasr, et al. Has this philosophy been critiqued by our Ulama? Can you identify any of the sources in which I could find the details of such a critique?
The internet has such overwhelmingly varied material on the subject that it leaves one simply confused about the whole matter.
I hope you would respond to this message, inshaAllah.
Wassalam
p.s. I have also posted this query in the ‘Contact Us’ section of Ilmgate. I have been an a silent reader of both these site for quite sometime now.
Posted by Bint Akram | August 8, 2011, 12:56 amAs-salaamu alaykum Maulana sahab, may Allah swt Keep you in His Hifaazat. I am a student and currently i am working on a research project on H. Abu Yazid al-Bistami ra, his place in the Naqshbandi silsilah. I have found many resources on him but most of the Oriental literature that i have read focuses on his shathiyaat. I have found two useful resources here, one is a translation of parts of Imam Ghazali’s works which explain the Shathiyaat and the other is of as-Sarraj. I have found many books in Arabic as well which i have listed below, but no detailed texts by classical scholars (at least none by famous scholars that i know of). Could you please direct me to traditional works which address the following two issues?:
1. There is a break in the Naqshbandi Silsilah between Imam Ja`far and H. Abu Yazid ra. I need to find a resource which addresses this issue.
2. His shathiyaat. Any other resources besides the two i mentioned above.

Which contributor are you hoping to contact in particular?
Also, there are several works by the same name Mu’jam Lughat al-Fuqaha. Who is the author for the book you are looking for?

I noticed you uploaded the dictionary. Jazakallaahu khayr. That is the one I am looking for. I believe the publisher is Idaratul Quran Wa Uloom-ul-Islamiah. Do you know of any bookstore in US that may carry it? I know the Darul Hikmah Islamic Book Center in Buffalo carries it but they are currently out of it. I have called many other bookstores but have not found it. I have found it overseas but the shipping is more than the actual price of the book. If you could assist with that, it would be much appreciated.
Once again, jazakallaahu khayr.
